Just please don’t advise me to Google this.

Might be “Butl”, judging from the way the second letter is formed – definitely not ‘Buth’ (thank goodness).
That doesn’t solve your problem, though.
Why a button factory, of course! My grandmother worked in one in Rochester, NY.
